It's amazing how much of a drug food can be. Consider the placebo effect: your body and mind and resulting physiology is so powerful, that no matter what the natural medicine is, it may work regardless. That being said, certain types of foods and natural supplements like teas and herbs can really work wonders for various health problems, and for prevention. MCT oil is one such wonder. I use it a few times a week in my coffee, and it's amazing how you get a razor sharp amount of mental clarity from mild use. These are some of the other benefits related to cardiovascular function.. If you decide to use it, make sure you consider the overall fat intake you're getting and not to get too much.

The mass shootings, homelessness, crime, drug epidemics, and mental illness in the United States are primarily caused by a lack of a healthy communal life and positive cultural identity. Someone trying to do something constructive about this is Dr. Anthony Esolen. I highly recommend his book "Nostalgia: Going Home in a Homeless World" if you are in a position of leadership or influence, or are just interested in the common good, as it offers some insight into the situation we are, in as well as some ways to improve it. A line he wrote in this book- "Modern man is lost in the cosmos, unable to rise above time, or step aside from it" reminded me of Mercia Eliade's comment in "The Sacred & Profane" about how modern was dealing with the "terror of the mundane." I don't think we have a good grasp on how uniquely unhealthy our time is for the mind and soul. We have plenty of material comforts, but the human psyche is not meant to live the way we live. Read his book, and pass it on, because the ideas are timeless but uniquely pertinent to our age.
Perhaps it's a bit taboo or more benignly, just under the surface of public consciousness, but perhaps one reason men and women have a hard time in the US and other western countries getting together romantically and erotically, is that they're becoming too much alike. Having traveled a lot, I do notice this to be true. Considering we are attracted to opposites, masculine and feminine, yin and yang, if men and women were to become just alike, it would cause the two to feel repelled by each other instead of being drawn together. I can speak only for myself, but I can't say I am drawn to manly women.
I was thinking of that recently when I saw this article about how women's voices are becoming deeper (link below). Instead of looking at each other as enemies to be overcome and beaten, maybe we should look at ways we compliment each other. I think the world would be a happier place. |
